Sights and sounds of Athens #2: The pollution over Athens

Number two of my series of everyday and normal sights and sounds of Athens is the νέφος (air pollution) that hangs over the Athenian cityscape.

Don’t breathe too deeply, this stuff will knock a few years off your life expectancy. But on the few occasions I’ve left the city and returned, it’s actually quite welcoming, like a nice hug inside your lungs to say “Welcome home,  Athens has missed you.”

Yum yum yum

  1. ‘the hug of Athens’, right… funny boy! I can tell you I’m rather enjoying ‘the hug of Noordwijk’, lovely fresh sea breeze!
